A Quick Look Around a Post-Sandy Neighbourhood

Now that everything is finally dry after last week’s 48 hour deluge, here’s a slightly overdue look at my neighbourhood forest, post-Sandy.

The path through the forest was just about invisible underneath a thick layer of fallen leaves.

There weren’t very many fallen branches. The derecho in July cleared out most of the dead branches & trees. Still, a couple trunks lay about the forest floor.

For 3 or so days after the storm passed, everything was still covered in water, including my shoes, which took a while to dry out after trekking through wet leaves.

My neighbourhood was fortunate enough to survive with no loss of power and only minor damage; lots of leaves fell and a few houses took a few hits (a branch crushed the fence in one backyard), but Potomac survived Sandy much better than it did July’s storms.
