Cape Hatteras National Seashore: Dunes & Marshes

At the beach, my family never spends full days on the beach. We go in the morning and before dinner, but we always find somewhere to go in between.

It was something like an hour’s drive from our hotel down to the Cape Hatteras National Seashore

We climbed over the dunes onto a beach across from the Pea Island Wildlife refuge where, rather annoyingly, the water was much warmer than where we were staying.

We visited the Oregon Inlet to see shorebirds, shells, and crab-fishers.

We dodged rainclouds while visiting the lighthouses. If you look closely, you can see raindrops in this marsh behind Bodie Island Lighthouse.

Behind a nature centre, we spotted some nutria munching on fallen birdseed.
